FAQ

Frequently asked.

Honest answers to the questions we actually get asked.

Lead time

How long until I get my bed?
Usually three weeks from order. Often sooner. We'll tell you a firm delivery date as soon as Peter starts on yours.
Why three weeks if it's just one bed?
Peter spends a few days actually building it. The rest of the time is the oil finish curing. We don't rush that, and neither would you if you saw what happens when it's hurried.
Can you do it faster?
Sometimes, depending on what's in front of yours. Ask.

Sizes & fit

What sizes do you make?
Single, Small Double, Double, King, and Super King in all three ranges. EU sizes and non-standard sizes are available as bespoke. Get in touch.
Will it fit my mattress?
Yes, we build to standard UK mattress dimensions. If your mattress is non-standard, tell us before you order.
Do you supply mattresses?
Not yet. [CONFIRM if this is changing]
What if it doesn't fit through my front door?
It will. Our beds break down to headboard, footboard, two side rails, and slats. They go through almost any doorway, up almost any staircase, and round almost any corner.

Wood & finish

What wood do you use?
Solid pine for the Hauxley, solid oak for the Harbottle, and character oak (boards hand-selected for figure and knots) for the Derwent. All from suppliers Peter has worked with for years.
Is the wood FSC-certified?
Yes. [CONFIRM]
What finishes do you offer?
Three standard finishes across all ranges: natural, mid, and dark. All hard wax oil, all included in the price. Pine (the Hauxley) is natural only. If you want something specific (a custom colour, a stain to match existing furniture), we can do that as bespoke.
Do your beds have a centre support?
Doubles, Kings and Super Kings come with a solid timber centre beam supporting the slats at their midpoint. The bed stays solid even when kids treat it as a trampoline. Singles and Small Doubles don't need one.

Delivery & assembly

Is delivery really free?
Yes, across the North East (Tyne & Wear, Northumberland, Durham, Tees Valley). Outside that area, we deliver by arrangement for a charge.
Do you assemble the bed?
Yes. We bring it, build it, and take the packaging away.
Will I need to do anything?
Show us where it goes. Put the kettle on if you fancy.
How long does delivery take on the day?
Usually 30 to 45 minutes from arrival to packed away.

Guarantee & returns

What if I don't like it?
We don't offer a "free trial" because we make every bed to order. We can't take it back and put it on a shelf. But if there's a genuine problem, talk to us. We'd rather sort it than have you stuck with a bed you regret.
What's the guarantee?
If anything structural fails (joints, frame, slats under normal use), Peter will fix it or replace it. No time limit. Read more on the Care & Guarantee page.
Can I see a bed before I buy?
Our workshop isn't open to visitors, but we can send more photos, samples of the wood, or hop on a video call to show you. Just ask.
