A Peter Stuart Derwent bed at the foot of a sunlit bedroom, with a parent and child playing on it

Solid wood beds, made in the North East.
Built to last a lifetime.

Made by hand in South Shields, in solid pine and solid oak. Mortise and tenon joinery, cut by hand. The kind of bed your kids will inherit.

Made by hand

Every bed is built one at a time in our workshop in South Shields. No flat-pack, no factory.

Delivered and assembled

Free across the North East. We bring it, we build it, we take the packaging away.

Built to last

Solid wood and real joinery. Made to last a lifetime, and backed by a lifetime guarantee.

The cheapest bed isn't the cheapest.

Most budget flat-pack frames don't even come with a long-term structural guarantee. Some mid-range high-street retailers offer more — a 15-year frame guarantee on their own-brand beds.

Our beds are made from solid pine and solid oak, joined by hand with mortise and tenon. We back them with a lifetime structural guarantee.

A flat-pack bed gets bought again and again. Ours gets bought once.

The Workshop

Peter Stuart has been working with wood since he was a boy. His dad taught him.

After years of joinery, he set up his own workshop in South Shields to do things his way: solid wood, traditional joints, beds made one at a time, finished by hand.

Every bed on this site is made by Peter, in that workshop, from start to finish.

Solid wood.
Real joinery.

We make our beds from solid pine and solid oak, from suppliers Peter has worked with for years.

The joints are mortise and tenon, the same way carpenters have built furniture for a thousand years. Cut by hand, glued, and pegged.

Each bed is finished with hard wax oil. Food-safe and natural. The wood breathes, and the colour deepens slightly with age.
